Arriving in London

Sunday 28th August 2011
After a long, mind-numbing flight with a stopover for an hour or so in Hong Kong, we finally touched down on a grey 'typical London weather' Sunday.
Good efficiency saw us through immigration within a few minutes. Further efficiecy on the London - Heathrow Express train had us at Paddington Station in 15 minutes and then into a black cab on the way to our hotel.

Hang on... what happened to that drizzle? It was a beautiful, warm, sunny afternoon. Perfect for a walk alongside the Thames from our hotel near Lambeth Palace to Westminster. In time for the 3pm chiming of Big Ben - just to really remind us that, yes - we are indeed in London.
Massive crowds of people - mostly European tourists swarmed the area. Through Whitehall to Trafalgar Square, where many families posed for photos at the base of Lord Nelson's high perch.
Then of course we had to get back (and the jet lag was really setting in). Across the Lambeth Bridge this time and a brief stopover at the hotel before heading out to The 3 Stags for dinner. Sorry England, but that warm, local ale just didn't hit it at all. Luckily the slow roasted lamb gave cause to drink a toast to a Sunday roast and our British heritage.
