Sélestat - Haut Koenigsbourg

So glad we followed the recommendation for to visit this chateau perched high on a mountaintop near Sélestat. It was restored early 20th century when Alscace was part of Germany, but is now France (Treaty of Versaille).  Dates from 12 century and has been damaged a few times. After being burned and looted by Swedes during the 30 years war, it was abandoned for more than 2 1/2 centuries.

The defensive position of the Chateau enabled sweeping views, and was an importantpart of history. Certainly while it was clear, we were able to see far into the distance. But this position high on a spur alsi makes it vulnerable to weather. We felt that also for a while!
