Twas the night...

Walking tour (self guided) of Medieval Strasbourg today. OK, we might have deviated through some Christmas markets and tested out 1 or 2 vin chauds.  We prefer the blanc!  Christmas is in full swing in the Christmas capital.
Some amazing sights.

L'hopital - gate tower 1200 - 1250:

Beside it is a Chapelle Saint-Erhard (15th century)

Little France:

Eglise Saint Nicolas (1182)

Little France

Two of the five towers that remain (there were 28). These formed part of the fortifications of Medieval Strasbourg.

Eglise Saint-Pierre-le Vieux (1132) Became Protestant 1529. In 1866 some demolished in order to build more elaborate Catholic church after Louis IV decreed France Catholic.   The two very distinctly different (nb colour!) parts remain separated by a wall. A door was built between them recently but it is kept locked.
Eglise Saint-Pierre-le-jeune was founded in 7th century, with various developments since. In this church the wall dividing Catholic and Protestant has been removed. Inside are the remains of Medieval frescoes. We found this church fascinating - not least the cloister and crypt - from earliest times.

Eglise St-Thomas (7th C)

There were plenty more churches but after this lot we were a bit churched out so headed for our favourite Vin Chaud in Place-St-Etienne, where we found some amazing Spanish musicians to entertain us.
